Turkey Tag

One of the challenges over at the Gecko Galz Papercrafting Challenge Group is to create something with a turkey on it. So I whipped up this tag with an awesome turkey image on it. I love a turkey in their full feathered glory! Too bad they are so mean!

Images are from Gecko Galz.

November is Here!

Time has been flying for us as we get ready to leave Hawaii for good. And even though it doesn't feel like Autumn here, I am in full Autumn crafting mode. So here is a little something I made last month for Gecko Galz, a Thanksgiving card with one of my favorite images.

Back to School ATCs

This month I am swapping some Back to School ATCs for the Blissfull ATC Swap blog. I made 3 cards to swap with my partner. Here they are:

I focused on more adult education themes. My favorite has to be the Future Librarian one, since that is my passion in life.

Images came mostly from Gecko Galz, with the exception of Sorority Girl, who is from AlphaStamps.

Cannot wait to see what I get in the mail!

Catching Up on DT work

I have been behind since July. I blame it on getting sick over the 4th of July. Ever since I have been blah. Anyway, here are some of my Gecko Galz samples that I missed. I wanted to share them even if they are late.

July Sample - Da Vinci Due Date Card

August Sample - Caged Birds Altered Tags

Hopefully I have my mojo back and can be back into the swing of things!

Sea Sirens ATCs

I recently participated in the Sea Sirens ATC swap at AlphaStamps. Here are mine.

The images were all from AlphaStamps. I used netting, which I love, and added fish, shells, and fibers. I attached shell sequins onto wires at the bottom. Love how they turned out!

Create for a Cause

Sorry for my absence last month! I was really sick over the 4th weekend, and it took a bit to recover. But I am back, creating and blogging.

This month Gecko Galz is featuring art from to Design Team. Any proceeds from the items featured in the art piece will be donated to a charity of the artist's choosing. Mine is the Friends of the Hastings Public Library, which is where my mom volunteers. She has been a big inspiration to me, why I became a librarian. It was only fitting that I choose her charity. She works so hard putting together "baby bags," which are given to every new baby in the county.

My project, featured on Gecko Galz, is a Mermaid Tunnel Box, inspired by THIS blog. For details on supplies and how I put it together, visit the Gecko Galz page and click on the project.

School Supply Cake for Ms. Sandy

My daughter's teacher celebrated her birthday at school the other day. I wanted to make something for her so a friend and I thought of doing a school supply cake. What teacher doesn't need more supplies??

I tried to use materials they currently use, so no glue sticks. I did want playdough but it was a last minute thought so I did it without.

Here is a quick how-to to make this. Sorry, no pictures during the process.

1) Take a circle of cardboard for the base and cover it with scrapbook paper.

2) Use an individually wrapped roll of paper towels for the inside. Cover with folders, securing with rubber bands. I used 4, alternating between teal and red. 2 barely covered it and made it more of an oval shape.

3) use several rubber bands around the towels so that you can add your first layer of crayon boxes. They should wrap all the way around.

4) stack the glue on the crayons boxes and secure with a rubber and.
Using another rubber and near the top of the towels, add pencils and rulers. Keep them lined up together.

5) next, get a clean tin can and secure markers to it using another rubber band. Add your disinfectant wipes inside the can and tuck your scissors into the can.

6) now to decorate with ribbon. I used double sided tape to hold the ribbon on, but hot glue works as well. I also used the tape on the Snoopy Rosettes, make by my friend Van. The top one was secured onto a stick then tucked into the can.

Voila! Now you have a wonderful gift!

Thanks again Van for the wonderful rosettes and card! And for the ribbons and scrapbook paper! Saved me some time since my stuff is so disorganized! Lol!

Diaper Cakes by Gwynberry Designs

I recently got an order to make 3 diaper cakes, any theme, for a woman to sell at the vendor shows in the area. It was fun coming up with the looks. I concentrated more on the style than baby products. Apparently they were so nice, she had wanted me to be her diaper cake lady, but since,we are moving in 5 months, she went with someone else.

That is okay. I try to make a bit of money with my cakes, finding clearance items and using coupons, but this is just a fun hobby for me.

Here are the cakes that I made. My favorite is the big pink one. The zebra one sold right away and she has ordered another. Need to get that done soon.

GG Sample #2 and Altoid's Tin Swap

Using another awesome image from the new June products over at Gecko Galz, I created an altered Altoid's Tin for a swap over at the Circle of Friends yahoo group.  The sewing theme is an awesome one, I just love the images from Gecko Galz, as well as the paper pad from Colorbok which had the awesome ruler paper in it. Perfect for trimming this tin. I also used some sewing pattern paper that my friend Kim (artJOYstuff) provided as wrapping on a swap last month. I modged podged it into the tin. Love the look of it!

As part of the swap, we had to alter 1 tin and provide 4 cards inside.  The cards would be traded and a different tin will be returned.  Cannot wait to see what I get! Here are the cards that I used. Gecko Galz had a great image of Button Bingo. So I printed out 4 of them, and altered/aged them and added buttons.

Gecko Galz May Samples

Here are my samples for the new collage sets from Gecko Galz. I love the sets, lots of variety.

The first is a simple card, with a not so simple image. When I was browsing the card section at the store, several tulle covered cards caught my eye. The images under the tulle were simple, accented with glitter glue. I loved the look and had to recreate it with the bird image in the Spring Time Collection.

Blissfull ATC Swap Returns for April

I had a wonderful surprise today! I got my swap returns from my Blissfull ATC swap partner! We had to make 3 egg themed ATCs and send them, then we received 3 in return.  It took a while to get mine, since they were coming from Down Under! The funny thing was that she mailed hers first, then I mailed mine. She received mine before I received hers!  Crazy postal system!

Click here if you want to see what I sent to her for this swap.

Thanks so much Kamali!

ATC Swap with Gecko Galz and artJOYstuff

A blog friend of mine, artJOYstuff, is challenging herself to make an ATC every week and to trade it to the first person who wants it in exchange for an ATC of their own.  I finally was the first comment! (It pays to be in a different time zone and up all night when East Coast people are just getting their day started!)

Check out the post from her blog HERE. I love the layers and the stitching! Gecko Galz has a ton of domino images that would be perfect for an ATC like this! Thanks for the inspiration Kim!

I was making some ATC swaps for a swap at Gecko Galz, so I decided that if I loved how they turned out, I would make another for this trade.  Well, I love how it turned out! We had to make an ATC in our style, and being the librarian nut, I had to use books!  I even printed up a small due date card for the background!

Supplies:

Library Due Date Card - Tortagialla
Arch shape - Tim Holtz die
Vine - Martha Stewart
Images of butterflies, books, child, and sentiment - Gecko Galz
Doily - stash
Distress Ink - Brushed Corduroy
Distress Stain - Faded Jeans
Glitter Glue - Studio G
Vintage Library Catalog Cards - Retro Cafe Art
Perfect Pearls
Seam Binding from Alphastamps and Really Reasonable Ribbon

Amy Tangerine Mini Album Workshop

I got my scrap on this past weekend at the Amy Tangerine Workshop at Ben Franklin Crafts. It was awesome to play with such bright and happy supplies, and people! I haven't had a chance to use bright and cheery since I focus mostly on vintage/shabby chic.

The mini-album was adorable, using new products from her new Yes, Please collection at American Crafts. The cover was a special corrugated paper, which I bought in the other colors as well. She showed us some embroidery techniques as well as some watercolor techniques. I was bummed that the store sold out of the stitching templates. I will have to do them freehand until I find them.

It was great meeting Amy Tan a second time. She is a really down-to-Earth person, and has such a cute baby bump! Congrats to her again!

This class has renewed my spirit of scrapbooking, encouraging me to work with my photos again. Now if I had more hours in the day, I could do everything, everyday!

I did finish my album, after a couple of late nights. I left a couple of blank pages in the back for new pictures of Hawaii.  I know we will have plenty to add!

Here is the cover of my album.  It is a lot like Amy's, but I added a palm tree and the True Story tag. I keep staring at it, in love with every piece!

Here are the pages that I created in my album. I love the paint splatter one, with the embroidery (which is hard to see in this photo). I keep flipping through it, admiring the products, and of course, my photos! I had to include some fave pics of the kids around Hawaii. Even my hubby is show on the last page, saluting at the USS Arizona Memorial.

So, it was a great Saturday.  Thanks to everyone for making it that way! Especially my scrap buddies, Van (from Like the Car) and Nicole! Thanks for this picture Van!

Hope everyone has a happy scrappy day!

Jess

Egg Shaped ATCs

Here are some egg shaped ATCs that I made for an Easter Egg themed ATC swap at Blissfull Art Swap Group.  Yes, I went literal, using the eggs from Alphastamps.  They are so cute! I had fun creating Spring/Easter looks on each!

This egg, Girl with Bunny, is so cute!  I love how the bow behind the top makes me think of a big old-fashioned hair bow!

Ink - Distress Ink Brushed Corduroy
Lace - Pink Paislee
Leaves - Ben Franklin Arts & Crafts
Button - Vintage from my Grandma's button collection
Scor-Tape
Aleene's Tacky Glue

This next ATC was fun.  It has a bit of dimension to it, because of the moss and popping the bunny up to be in front of the moss.

This last one, a sample for this month's Gecko Galz products, is so sweet with the coral lace behind and a bit of moss.
