Summer of Color - 3rd Prompt

This week we had to use lavender, grey and plum in our artwork. I did another geometric watercolor, drawing it out first.

Summer of Color - 2nd Prompt

The colors are up for the week! Coral, Dark Teal, and Bright White! That is a difficult one with the kids since those are definitely not easy colors to find in their art supplies! So I will have to think on it.

But I decided to try something with those colors. Last week I didn't like anything I made with the colors, but I think mt geometric watercolor turned out pretty good this week! In fact, I plan on framing it!

I used my kids' watercolors since I don't care for the "grown-up" ones I bought for myself. Not enough color for me. I mixed a few colors together and got a nice coral and a dark teal. Then tried a geometric design that seems to be the rage lately! Loved it! Takes time and patience for sure, and easy for a beginner like me.

Hopefully I will be able to create more with this color palette this week, and maybe the kids will too!

Summer of Color, 1st Prompt

This week I broke out the tissue paper for the kids to create pictures using this weeks prompt over at Summer of Color.

Aqua, Yellow, and a pop of Pink!

Well, we tried watercolors, but it was hard to mix the right aqua since we didn't have it. So I busted out my multi-pack of tissue paper and the kids crumpled little squares and glues them on their papers. So cute!

This one belongs to my youngest, Leo, who is 3 years old. I helped him with the lightning bolt.

This one belongs to my oldest, Gwyneth, who is 5 years old. She said it was a party picture.

I think they did a great job! Cannot wait until the next one! If you want to participate, click on the Summer of Color badge on the right side of my blog.

Happy Father's Day!

Here is a simple card I made from last month's new Gecko Galz Classic Cars Collage Sheet Set. I knew it was done, but after all the flowers, glitter, and ribbon I use, it feels so bare! But it is perfect for my classic old man! Love ya Dad!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Father's Day!

Summer of Color!

One of my artsy friends told me about Summer of Color, a blog that does color prompts throughout the summer to get us inspired. Any medium is welcome. I am excited about this and plan to use it as an opportunity to create with my kids. Every Monday there will be a prompt, and you have until the following Sunday to post what you created. I also plan to break out the water colors is recently purchased, inspired by my girlfriend Kris of Kris Loya Art & Illustration. She creates such beautiful paintings, mostly using watercolors!

Here is a blurb about the party:

"Think of it as a blog block party featuring six weeks of luscious color prompts, weekly linking opportunities, beautiful giveaways, creative inspirations and an amazing artistic community."

Check out the blog for more information. Prompts begin Monday!

Mad Tea Party Coming Soon!

This year I plan to participate in the 7th Annual Mad Tea Party on July 12 at A Fanciful Twist. I am very excited about this, being part of something like this. I wasn't able to play in the Celebrate Oz blog party earlier this year since we were in the middle of our move.

I plan to create something with teacups, so be sure to stop by on July 12th to see! I will also have a giveaway, fun stuff!

Little Miss Firecracker Banner - Gecko Galz Sample

I have been bitten by the patriotic bug. I have been creating tons of things, all USA! My mantel is looking awesome, and as soon as I hang up my Patriotic Printer's Tray, I will be posting about it.

The new products from Gecko Galz this month are awesome! I really loved the Little Miss Firecracker Collage Sheet Set, featuring patriotic ladies. I made a mini banner featuring a few of my favorites. This is a simple way to make holiday decor from our collage sheets, and can be done with any theme.

Simply cut out your images, and ink them. Punch holes in the corners and add eyelets. I do that so as not to tear the paper when tying knots. Then take a piece of ribbon and connect each image, adding more ribbon before tying. So only one ribbon is in the holes but three are there. Then add some twine on the end images with loops at the ends for hanging. Easy!

Patriotic Rays Card - Gecko Galz Sample

Another sample from Gecko Galz this month, a card using an image from the Little Miss Firecracker Collage Sheet Set. I saw a tutorial for a card using rays on Pinterest, HERE, and knew I needed to try it with my patriotic leftovers.

After putting on the rays, I added the glitter ribbon, felt star, sequins, vintage image, and sentiment. Very easy to make and useful for many themes.
